There are a range of body kits you can consider to improve your styling, speed, and overall handling performance. What can you expect from a car body kit?
Body Kits for Style Body kits come in two styles: normal and wide (also called flared). The full body kit comes in four pieces unless specified: front and rear bumper, and two side skirts. A body kit in fiberglass runs for around $375.00. A carbon fiber body kit from C-1 Creations runs for about $1500.00. You’ll need to have these parts professionally painted after installation. As with all pieces, make sure they are test-fitted before installing. You can also buy carbon fiber body kits, which cost a little more but don’t need to be painted.
Wide Body Kits If you love the sleek, aggressive look of a wider, lower car then adding a wide body kit is a great way to achieve this look. If you want to run wider tires, a wide body kit is a must. A wider tire in a normal wheel well will stick out and cause more drag. Adding a wider bumper, fenders and side skirts cover the extra width in tire, thus reducing drag.
One must note that wider is not always faster. Faster in cars equates to a narrower front end so the vehicle can slice though the air with the least amount of frontal drag. However, wider tires help with cornering and traction, and the design of the fenders may help air to channel to the back of the car more efficiently. Expect to spend around $2000.00 for an eight-piece polyurethane kit, which includes the front and rear bumper, 2 side skirts and 4 fender flares. |
